I think, I hope, you all liked the mini-lesson yesterday so I'm taking the liberty of sharing another technique today. This one is super simple and adds great texture to any collage or painting.

1. Using common masking tape tear lots of pieces and attach them to your ATC. The more randomly and overlapped they are placed, the more texture you will get. You can also do patterns, lots of fun to experiment.
2. Rub the card thoroughly to make sure all your tape is flat. I like to use a brayer (mini paint rolling pin) but it really isn't necessary.

3. Paint over the top with Acrylic in any color you like. The edges of the tape will pick up more color and give you the textured look.
4. To waterproof and stop the paint from peeling be sure to coat entire card with gel medium.

I used this technique to give a tree bark impression behind this silly little tree gnome I had. I painted the first layer with a lighter color and then smudged on the darker color for effect with my fingers.

I used a stamp exactly like the one I'm giving away tomorrow for today's ATC. I know some of you haven't worked with stamps and I didn't want you to think they'd be boring!

Naked Heart Art 308 (58)

I am teaching a couple of art classes soon and I created this ATC as an example of creative backgrounds. The technique was as follows:
1. Glue Vintage book page to an ATC blank.
2. Use a piece of scotch tape to strategically tear the page. when placing the tape on the page and pulling it up again it lifts the print and small pieces of the paper giving it an even more "aged" look.
3. Using your fingernail tear the page just a bit more in a few places.
4. Now these textured areas will pick up more paint.
5. Use a thin acrylic wash in a light color of your choice. Her I used Raw Sienna. Give this layer time to dry.
6. Next I painted areas with Golden Iridescent Fine Grained Copper Acrylic for a marvelous Shiny effect.
7. I followed this with a thick coat of Liquitex Brilliant Gloss Gel. to seal the work and make it waterproof.
8. I then glued on my Collage elements.
9. A bit of micron to draw in the plants.
10. I used the back end of my paint brush to put a few colored spots that helped draw out the reds and purples of the silo.
11. Lastly I used my finger to edge the entire piece with Burnt Sienna. Make a few strategic smear for shadows and interest.
12. I used a Burnt Umber Copic marker to edge the sides of the card.

I had to photograph it instead of scan it to show the 3D effect of the butterfly and it showed the colors much more true since metallics don't scan very well. I have to say all in all I was very happy with the results
